About Us

About Mt Olive United Methodist Church
Mt. Olive strives to “Love God, Love People, Love to Do Some Good”…  some common principles by which Mt Olive are guided in every ministry area are:

Authentic Community
In each ministry area Mt Olive attempts to provide true, authentic relationships that include hospitality, a sense of belonging for all, a supportive and loving environment, and relationships that honor God through trust, honesty, acceptance, and healthy conflict resolution. Mt Olive believes this principle is modeled through Christ in His relationships and through the church in the New Testament.

Continual Spiritual Growth
Mt Olive believes that the Christian faith is a personal journey that begin when the gift of Christ’s salvation is accepted and does not end until standing before Him in heaven. God will continue to mold and make all into a new being as all seek Him and His word. Mt Olive believes maturing in faith is a mandate given to us in Hebrews 6:1, “Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,” Therefore Mt. Olive encourages and equips all to continue on to maturity in Christ.

Passionate Worship
Mt Olive believes worshiping God is more than attending “worship” on Sunday mornings. Mt Olive believes passionate worship of God is displayed through an open and intimate relationship with God and through a life where all things are centered on God.

Everyone a Minister
Mt Olive believes in the “Priesthood of Believers” as described in John 12:38-40. Mt Olive believes that all followers of Christ are to be His hands and feet in this world, and that God has prepared each person for the ministry to which God is calling them through spiritual gifts. (I Corinthians 12) Therefore Mt Olive endeavors to equip the saints for ministry inside and outside the church walls.

Others Focused
Christ modeled and commanded that we love others. It is easy to love those who we know and who love us, but Christ did more and calls us to do more too. Christ loved us even before we loved Him…before we were His “friends”, and at Mt. Olive believers are encouraged to model this kind of depth of love to everyone.  Christ states in John 15:12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” At Mt. Olive all are challenged “to lay down our own lives”…our own preferences, ideas, agendas and sometimes our own busy schedules in order to love others as Christ loves us.
